The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has asserted that it paid N898 per litre for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, purchased from the Dangote Refinery. This statement counters previous claims suggesting that the NNPC acquired fuel at N760 per litre, which had raised expectations for a potential decrease in pump prices.

On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the NNPC dispatched around 300 trucks to the Dangote Refinery’s loading gantry in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, in preparation for distribution scheduled to begin on Sunday. As of the latest update, over 70 trucks had already been loaded.

Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Spokesperson for NNPC, clarified that the price for this initial batch of fuel was indeed N898 per litre, not the lower amount previously speculated.

Additionally, Wale Edu, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, had earlier announced that NNPC would be the exclusive buyer of petrol from the Dangote Refinery, while diesel would be available for purchase in naira to any interested buyers. This information was shared during a Technical Sub-Committee meeting on the sale of crude oil to local refineries in Abuja.
