The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has deported a Zimbabwean cleric, Eben Nhiwatawi, for violating immigration laws. Nhiwatawi, who arrived in Nigeria on August 21 with a Tourist Visa (F5A), was apprehended in Yola, Adamawa, after it was discovered that he participated in the Methodist Church leadership election process, which is a violation of the visa’s terms.

According to the NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, the cleric’s actions were not permitted under the Nigeria Visa Policy 2024. As a result, the NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, with Ministerial approval, ordered his immediate repatriation. The NIS emphasized that while it supports lawful foreign investments and activities that contribute to economic growth, it will not tolerate any violations of Nigeria’s immigration laws.

The NIS also reaffirmed its commitment to national security and will continue to monitor the activities of foreigners in the country to ensure compliance with immigration regulations.
