Nigerian youths in Abuja are calling for the revival of classic television programmes like Tales by Moonlight to address the growing concerns of moral decadence in society. In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), these youths emphasized the positive impact that classic TV shows had on their lives and expressed concerns about the negative influence of modern television on today’s youth.
Olabisola Peters, a graduate of the University of Ilorin, highlighted how classic TV shows were instrumental in shaping the character and morals of the youth in the past. He suggested that these programmes could still be effective if adapted to reflect contemporary trends and issues relevant to today’s youth.
Viviane Olawale, a teacher, echoed this sentiment, stating that reintroducing programmes like Tales by Moonlight could foster moral values such as unity, respect, and kindness among young people. She suggested that incorporating modern elements into these shows could make them more appealing to the current generation.
Engineer Bernard Metonhanou and biochemist Florence Tosin also supported the reintroduction of these programmes. Metonhanou emphasized the importance of moral education through such shows, while Tosin proposed that these classics be modernized and made available on social media and streaming platforms to reach a wider audience. She also recommended integrating these programmes into school curricula to reinforce moral values.
Overall, these youths believe that reviving classic TV shows with a modern twist could play a crucial role in addressing moral decline and positively influencing the behavior of young Nigerians.
