Nigerian troops have successfully killed eight notorious terrorist fighters and rescued 16 kidnapped hostages during recent operations against terrorism and insurgency across the country. The Nigerian Army announced these achievements via its official social media account on Monday.

On September 22, troops thwarted a terrorist raid on several villages in Borno State, eliminating three attackers and recovering a significant cache of firearms, including one light machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, two hand grenades, five AK-47 magazines, 200 linked rounds of ammunition, and other items.

In another operation, troops, acting on credible intelligence, confronted terrorists escorting abducted victims in Uvaha village, Gwoza Local Government Area. Despite heavy rainfall, the troops managed to neutralize one terrorist, prompting the others to flee and leaving behind 16 hostages, which included 10 men and six women. A follow-up search revealed additional grenades and various items.

In Yobe State, troops set up a well-planned ambush based on intelligence about terrorists receiving supplies. This operation resulted in the elimination of four terrorists in Madza and Azare villages of Gujba Local Government Area, along with the seizure of two AK-47 rifles and other materials.

Additionally, troops deployed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) collaborated with other security agencies to conduct a stop-and-search operation. This led to the apprehension of suspects in Kugbo, Abuja, where 178 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition concealed in a bag of flour were recovered, along with a mobile phone and ₦29,000 in cash.

These efforts highlight the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring public safety, while the public is urged to continue sharing information with security forces for timely action.
