NIGERIAN STATES, INCLUDING MAIDUGURI, TO FACE THUNDERSTORMS, RAIN FROM WEDNESDAY

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rains across the country from Wednesday to Friday. According to the weather outlook released on Tuesday, strong winds may precede the rains in regions where thunderstorms are expected.

Thunderstorms are anticipated in the northern states of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna on Wednesday morning. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms will affect Kano, Borno, Katsina, Adamawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Jigawa States.

In the North Central region, thunderstorms are expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger states in the morning. Later in the day, thunderstorms will spread to Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States.

The southern region will experience thunderstorms over Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States during the morning. Intermittent rains are forecasted for Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.

On Thursday, thunderstorms are expected in the northern states of Taraba and Adamawa in the morning, with further thunderstorms in Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba later in the day. In the North Central region, rains are predicted for Plateau and Benue States in the morning, with thunderstorms later in the day in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, and Benue States.

The southern cities will see intermittent rains over Enugu and Anambra States in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and intermittent rains in various parts later in the day. On Friday, thunderstorms are expected in Taraba and Adamawa States in the morning, with further storms in Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara later.

Residents are advised to stay clear of flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities. NiMet also warned that strong winds may precede the rains in areas experiencing thunderstorms and urged the public to adhere to safety advisories and stay informed through weather updates.
