NIGERIAN METEOROLOGICAL AGENCY (NIMET) PREDICTS THUNDERSTORMS AND RAINS FROM WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rains across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, thunderstorms are expected in parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna States during the morning hours on Wednesday in the northern region.

Thunderstorms will also affect parts of Kano, Borno, Katsina, Adamawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Jigawa States in the afternoon and evening.

“In the North Central region, thunderstorms are anticipated in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger states during the morning hours,” NiMet said. “Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States.”

In the southern region, thunderstorms are predicted for Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States in the morning. Intermittent rains are expected later in the day over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States.

On Friday, thunderstorms are forecasted for Adamawa and Taraba States in the northern region during the morning. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in parts of Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara States.

In the North Central region, rains are anticipated in Plateau and Benue States during the morning, with localised thunderstorms expected in the afternoon and evening across the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, and Benue States.

Southern cities are expected to experience cloudy skies in the morning, with thunderstorms likely over inland cities and intermittent rains over coastal cities later in the day.

NiMet advises residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding from heavy downpours. The agency also warns of strong winds potentially preceding thunderstorms and urges the public to follow safety advisories from relevant authorities.
