The Nigerian Government has praised the resilience of Borno State communities following the devastating flood that affected the region.
In a statement, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, expressed the government’s condolences to the victims of the flood caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam. The disaster has resulted in substantial damage to properties, homes, and infrastructure, leading to widespread displacement and disruption of livelihoods.
“On behalf of the Federal Government, I extend my deepest sympathies to the government and people of Borno State over the flooding that has ravaged Maiduguri and its surroundings,” said Minister Idris. “This tragedy has led to the destruction of properties, homes, and essential infrastructure, displacing families and disrupting their lives. We share the grief and suffering of all those affected.”
The Minister assured that the government is dedicated to supporting the victims, particularly those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims. We stand with the displaced families and empathize with their pain and distress during this challenging time,” Idris added.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed relevant ministries and agencies to collaborate with the Borno State Government to provide urgent relief and assistance. Minister Idris commended the strength and resilience of the Borno State communities, expressing confidence that they will overcome the disaster with collective effort.
