The Nigerian Army has reported a series of successful operations against terrorist activities in the country. Notably, troops in Kebbi State conducted a daring rescue operation that led to the liberation of eight hostages following an intense firefight with kidnappers.
In a statement from Army headquarters, it was disclosed that 15 exhausted Boko Haram terrorists, along with their families, surrendered to troops in Borno State. The military has been actively dismantling terrorist hideouts, capturing key terrorist figures, and seizing firearms and logistical supplies.
In another operation aimed at curbing terrorist activities in South Eastern Nigeria, troops raided an IPOB/ESN hideout in the Enugwu Umuonyia community of Aguata Local Government Area in Anambra State. During the firefight, the terrorists fled, leaving behind a significant cache of arms, including:
- 78 rounds of 7.62mm by 39mm ammunition
- 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- 20 live cartridges
- A pump-action gun
- A locally fabricated pistol
- An AK-56 magazine
- Six vehicles
Additionally, on October 9, 2024, troops in Plateau State intercepted a notorious gunrunner named Mathew Caleb, aged 35, during a stop-and-search operation. He was found with a fabricated revolver rifle, a fabricated pistol, 23 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a motorcycle intended for weapon delivery.
Troops also made further arrests, including two armed motorcycle snatchers and a robber in Bokkos Local Government Area, seizing a fabricated pistol, four rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a motorcycle from them.
Overall, these operations represent significant strides in combatting the remnants of Boko Haram and other criminal elements in Nigeria.
