The Nigerian Army announced that its troops, in collaboration with other security forces, successfully neutralized several terrorists during a raid on a terrorist base in the Mandara mountains on September 3, 2024.
The Army reported that the offensive led to some terrorists fleeing and abandoning 24 captives at their base. The troops recovered various items, including 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one AK-47 rifle magazine, a Dane gun, and other equipment.
In a parallel operation in Kaduna State, troops targeted a kidnappers’ den in Kabode village, Kachia Local Government Area. The operation resulted in the neutralization of one criminal, with four victims rescued and items such as one AK-47 rifle, 10 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, six motorcycles, and three mobile phones recovered.
Further, in the Keyeri Hills and Gidan Dogo areas of Kagarko Local Government Area in Kaduna State, a joint offensive led to the apprehension of a terrorist arms courier. This operation yielded three AK-47 rifles, one Galil rifle, 1,621 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, 222 rounds of 7.62 x 36mm ammunition, 138 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, two extra AK-47 magazines, and one G3 rifle magazine. Intelligence from the apprehended courier led to the arrest of eight additional suspects connected to the crime.
In Plateau State, troops raided a criminal hideout in Riyom Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of two mobile phones and a knife. In Barikin Ladi Local Government Area, troops, acting on credible intelligence, recovered 64 rustled cattle in Fann village, believed to have been stolen during the Mangu crisis earlier in the year.
The Chief of Army Staff praised the troops for their resilience and effective collaboration with other security agencies and local communities in the fight against terrorism and criminality.
