The Nigerian Army announced on Tuesday that its troops involved in counter-terrorism operations have successfully neutralized eight terrorists and rescued 40 individuals who had been abducted during a series of coordinated missions across various states.

In a statement, the Army highlighted that these operations have intensified efforts to combat unrepentant terrorists and their collaborators, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to eradicating terrorism.

A significant breakthrough was reported on September 28, 2024, when Nigerian Army troops in Nasarawa State conducted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road. This operation led to the arrest of a notorious arms courier, who was found in possession of a substantial cache of ammunition, specifically 303 live rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition concealed in a bag. The suspect and his vehicle were promptly taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to locate his accomplices.

In Kaduna State, troops carried out precision strikes in the forests near Danmari and Saulawa villages in Birnin Gwari LGA, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist. Additional engagements in Ankwa village of Kachia LGA led to the neutralization of two more terrorists, along with the recovery of a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the terrorists.

Meanwhile, in Borno State, troops encountered fleeing terrorists at Faayijiwa Fandanari village in Magumeri LGA, recovering two AK-47 rifles, 61 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), 51 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, hard drugs, and various supplies.

The Army’s operations are seen as a significant step in addressing the challenges posed by terrorism and enhancing the security of the affected regions.
