On Friday, the Nigerian Army announced a major victory in its ongoing fight against terrorism. On Thursday, September 12, 2024, troops carried out a deliberate and coordinated offensive in Mayanchi village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, successfully eliminating Haliru Buzu, a notorious terrorist kingpin, and several of his fighters.
The operation targeted a key crossing point used by the terrorists. Despite facing fierce resistance, the Nigerian troops used overwhelming firepower to overcome the militants. In the aftermath of the firefight, they recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition:

- 5 AK-47 rifles
- 479 rounds of PKT ammunition
- 366 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition
- 182 rounds of Machine Gun ammunition

- 29 AK-47 magazines
- 30 motorcycles
- 2 Android phones
- 2 Yeekee phones
Additionally, the troops destroyed the terrorists’ camp and are currently conducting further exploitation of the area. This operation is a significant boost in the fight against terrorism in the region, highlighting the army’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and security.
