Following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, cyberbullying, and defamation made against Colonel Ishaya Ibrahim by ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye, the Nigerian Army has exonerated him of any wrongdoing.
During a briefing on Tuesday, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, revealed that Ogunleye had been discharged from service due to mental health issues, as confirmed by independent medical examinations conducted at the National Hospital.
Nwachukwu addressed the serious allegations and the ongoing defamatory actions directed at Colonel Ibrahim by Ogunleye, particularly on social media platforms like TikTok. He noted that the Nigerian Army, as a professional force, is committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and accountability, and it takes all accusations against its personnel seriously.
Upon receiving Ogunleye’s initial complaint, which included claims of sexual harassment, the Army promptly referred the matter to the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police for a thorough investigation. Nwachukwu emphasized that the investigation adhered to established protocols to ensure a fair and impartial process. The Army conducted an exhaustive review of the facts, testimonies, and evidence to maintain justice and transparency.
