Flying Officer David Sangokoya of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has achieved a notable milestone by being awarded the International Sword of Honour for 2023 at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell (RAFCC) in the United Kingdom. This prestigious accolade was presented to him by Prince William, on behalf of King Charles III, during the Royal Graduation ceremony held on Thursday.
The award recognizes Sangokoya as the most outstanding International Cadet among those graduating from the RAFCC’s Modularised Initial Officers’ Training (MIOT) Course 22, which ran from March to September 2023. This makes him the first African recipient of the International Sword of Honour, highlighting both his individual excellence and the high standards of the NAF on the global stage.
Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information at the NAF, conveyed the significance of this achievement, noting that the award is given annually to the top-performing cadet among international participants.
Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, praised Sangokoya for his dedication and hard work, which led to this prestigious recognition. He also extended commendations to Sangokoya’s family for their support, acknowledging their crucial role in his success.
The NAF expressed immense pride in Sangokoya’s accomplishment, which not only reflects well on the service but also enhances Nigeria’s reputation internationally.
