The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched airlift missions to transport relief materials to those affected by the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri and its surrounding communities in Borno State. This was confirmed in a statement released by Group Capt. Kabir Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information of NAF, on Sunday in Abuja.
The airlift operation is part of NAF’s mandate to provide Military Aid to Civil Authority (MACA). The relief materials, donated by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), are aimed at easing the hardships of displaced residents impacted by the severe flooding. On September 14, the first batch of relief items, including 300 bags of 50kg rice, was successfully delivered to the NAF Base in Maiduguri using the NAF C-130 Hercules aircraft.
Upon arrival, Air Commodore UU Idris, the Air Component Commander, received the materials and handed them over to the Commissioner for Inter-Governmental and Special Duties, Alhaji Tukur Ibrahim, along with MD Malah, the Comptroller of the Nigerian Customs Service. NAF-provided heavy-duty trucks were then used to transport the relief items to the Borno State Government House for further distribution.
In addition to the airlift efforts, NAF has also introduced a medical outreach initiative to assist flood victims. This outreach provides essential medication, food, and water supplies to address the immediate needs of those affected by the disaster.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has ordered that these operations continue as long as necessary to ensure that relief materials and medical aid reach all affected areas. NAF will work in collaboration with other security agencies to sustain these humanitarian efforts until the flood crisis is fully managed.
