The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced preparations to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon in response to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared this information in a statement released on Friday in Abuja.
The statement emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of Nigerian nationals amid the deteriorating situation. The Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon has been proactive in issuing advisories to the Nigerian community, providing safety instructions, and in August, it recommended that citizens consider voluntary evacuation as commercial flight options remained available.
Additionally, Nigerian nationals located in southern Lebanon have been successfully relocated to Beirut and other safer regions with the help of community leadership.
Ambassador Abu-Obe reassured the public that, so far, no Nigerian lives have been lost since the onset of the conflict. The ministry is actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure the well-being of its citizens and is moving forward with plans for their evacuation back to Nigeria
