NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS CALLS OUT NNPC-DANGOTE REFINERY DEVELOPMENT AS FRAUDULENT

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the ongoing developments between the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and Dangote Refinery, labeling them as fraudulent.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, attributed the recent price disputes between NNPC and the refinery to government policy inconsistencies. Ajaero criticized the lack of choice and competition in a deregulated economy, highlighting the government’s failure to repair local refineries as promised.

Speaking at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 in Lagos, Ajaero argued that government attempts to regulate Dangote’s product pricing were unjustified. “For a product produced domestically without import costs, it is fraudulent to impose the same pricing as imported products,” he stated.

Regarding the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, Ajaero assured that it would proceed as per the agreement reached on April 18, 2024. He noted that the consequential adjustment committee is working on the implementation, with the National Assembly having already passed the bill.
