The Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abba Aji-Idris, has urged students to recognize the detrimental effects of smuggling on the nation’s economy. This appeal was made during a visit from students of Government Pilot Secondary School and Umaru Musa Yar’adua University to Aji-Idris’s office on Thursday.
Engagement with Students
Aji-Idris emphasized that the revenue generated by the NCS plays a crucial role in benefiting students and the wider economy. He highlighted that students are vital stakeholders in the fight against smuggling and that their involvement is essential for promoting economic stability.
The Comptroller noted that engaging students strengthens the NCS’s community relations and supports the government’s ongoing anti-smuggling initiatives. He explained the procedures, history, laws, mandates, and jurisdiction of the NCS, aiming to enhance the students’ understanding of the agency’s role in securing Nigeria’s borders and promoting economic growth.
Community Relations and Responsibility
The Vice Principal of Government Pilot Secondary School, Malam Mas’udu Saeed, praised the Comptroller for his dedication to community engagement, recognizing it as a vital component of corporate social responsibility.
Additionally, Mubarak Musa, President of the students’ association at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and educational insights provided by Aji-Idris.
