Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed on Wednesday that Israel had uncovered a Hezbollah plot to launch a major attack on the country using underground tunnels, along with jeeps, motorbikes, rockets, and missiles. Speaking to French broadcasters CNews and Europe 1, Netanyahu explained that had the plan succeeded, the assault could have been even more devastating than the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.
Netanyahu said, “A hundred metres, two hundred metres from the border we found tunnels, tunnels that were preparing an invasion of Israel, an attack even greater than on October 7.” He emphasized that the planned invasion involved heavily armed forces ready to strike Israeli territory.
The Prime Minister had earlier told Le Figaro that Israeli forces had discovered Russian cutting-edge military hardware in Hezbollah’s arms caches. Israel escalated its bombing campaign in Lebanon in recent weeks, leading to a rising death toll of at least 1,552 people, according to Lebanese health ministry figures cited by AFP, though the actual number is believed to be higher.
