The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Ebonyi State Command has reported the seizure of 115.226 kilogrammes of various illicit substances and the arrest of 149 suspects during the third quarter of 2024. The seizures and arrests took place across different locations within the state from July to September.
Peter Ogar, the State Commander of NDLEA, shared this information with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Wednesday. He revealed that, during this period, the agency also provided counseling to 82 suspects, consisting of 64 males and 18 females.
The total arrests comprised 112 males and 37 females, all aged between 26 and 72 years, including drug dealers, users, and traffickers.
The seized substances include:
- Crack Cocaine: 0.0023 kg
- Cannabis Sativa: 55.492 kg
- Codeine Syrup: 0.393 kg
- Tramadol Tablets: 0.004 kg
- Tramadol Capsule: 0.437 kg
- Diazepam: 917 tablets (0.964 kg) and 47 amps (0.226 kg)
- Methamphetamine: 0.0054 kg
- Bromazepam: 75 tablets (0.034 kg)
- Lorazepam: 476 tablets (0.100 kg)
- Monkey Tail: 56 litres (42.2 kg)
- Raphynol: 24 tablets (0.009 kg)
- Other Psychotropic Substances: totaling 115.226 kg.
Ogar noted that, during this period, one individual was convicted for drug-related offenses. He also emphasized the importance of community engagement, stating that the agency conducted sensitization campaigns targeting youth groups and community leaders about the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.
The Commander reiterated the agency’s commitment to combatting illicit drug trafficking not only in Ebonyi but across Nigeria, highlighting the strong collaborative relationship between the NDLEA and other security agencies in the state.
