The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Adebola Adewunmi, an Ibadan-based businesswoman, and Arinze Ora, an auto parts dealer, over their alleged attempts to export cocaine and opioids to the UK and Congo Brazzaville.
On September 6, NDLEA officers at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport intercepted a cargo intended for the UK. The shipment contained 924 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 5,250 tablets of Rohypnol concealed in cartons of foodstuffs. The freight agent, Owojori Olanrewaju, who presented the cargo, was promptly arrested. Further investigation led to the arrest of Adebola Adewunmi in Ibadan, who was implicated in the shipment through her son.
On September 11, another consignment heading to Congo Brazzaville was intercepted at the same airport. The cargo, which included auto spare parts, also contained 300 grams of cocaine hidden in checker powder custard. Arinze Ora, the sender of the consignment, was arrested.
Additionally, on September 10, NDLEA’s Special Operations Unit arrested Ikechukwu and Ugochukwu Ikeabba for allegedly sponsoring drug traffickers who use ingestion to smuggle drugs to Vietnam. This arrest followed the detention of Ibeanusi Nosike, who excreted 68 wraps of cocaine after being apprehended at Lagos airport.
Paul Mbadugha, a 54-year-old businessman, was arrested at Abuja airport on August 12. He was found to have ingested cocaine and excreted 88 wraps of the drug after testing positive. The Ikeabba brothers were also found with cocaine dummies used for training individuals in drug ingestion.
