The Ndigbo in Lagos State All Progressive Congress (APC) has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to convene a national youth conference aimed at addressing issues affecting the youth.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday, Jude Idimogu, the Deputy Apex Leader of the group, praised the president for recognizing the importance of youth engagement. The announcement came during Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast commemorating Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary, where he outlined the conference’s purpose to tackle diverse challenges and opportunities confronting young people.
Tinubu stated that the 30-day conference would foster meaningful dialogue, empowering the youth to actively participate in nation-building and ensuring their voices are heard in shaping policies that impact their lives. The president emphasized that the conference would unite young people nationwide to collaboratively develop solutions related to education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice.
Idimogu remarked that the youth conference would provide a vital platform for young Nigerians to express their grievances and propose solutions for a better Nigeria. He noted, “It is good that the President is giving the youth a voice after all, all the protests that we have been witnessing, they are the ones marshalling them.”
He further encouraged the youth to come with their ideas and interact with the government, suggesting that this engagement could help both parties understand each other’s perspectives. However, Idimogu cautioned that the conference should not devolve into a money-sharing event, as this could undermine its intended purpose.
Idimogu also affirmed that the president’s broadcast had inspired confidence among Nigerians, reinforcing their belief in the country and the government’s commitment to addressing challenges. He assured that President Tinubu is dedicated to building a better Nigeria and is working diligently to tackle pressing issues.
