The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commenced emergency repairs on deteriorated sections of the East-West Road between Warri in Delta State and Benin in Edo State, following years of neglect. The repairs will focus on critical sections in Ibadulume, Amukpe roundabout, Mosoga, and Ologbo, areas that have caused significant challenges for commuters.

NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, inspected the ongoing repairs over the weekend, accompanied by Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai, and other officials. Ogbuku expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for issuing a directive to urgently address these failing road sections, which connect six oil-producing states in the Niger Delta.

Ogbuku highlighted that the NDDC, following the presidential directive, had mobilized a civil engineering firm to begin remedial work, easing the suffering of commuters while the main construction continues. He praised the Federal Government for its prompt response to public concerns and the re-award of the East-West Road project contract, which had been abandoned for several years.

Assuring the public of a swift repair process, Ogbuku urged local communities and commuters to remain patient and cooperative during construction, stating, “The bad sections will be fixed in a short time, with the contractor committing to complete the job within two weeks.”

Mr. Adara Opeoluwa, Managing Director of the construction firm, informed the NDDC team that the repairs would cover a three-kilometer stretch, focusing on key areas like Ibadulume, Amukpe roundabout, Mosoga, and Ologbo, promising significant improvements for the road’s condition.
