The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has confiscated pirated books valued at ₦50 million during an anti-piracy operation in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

Charles Amudipe, Deputy Director of Operations at the NCC’s Lagos office, led the raid, which targeted five bookshops and three warehouses suspected of storing pirated materials. The operation was conducted at Chuks, Edu, and Don Mekus bookshops, among other locations.

Amudipe stated that the raid was intended to signal the commission’s intensified efforts to combat copyright infringement. He emphasized that the NCC is committed to enforcing anti-piracy measures and warned that the commission will not tolerate any form of piracy.

The NCC has also issued a stern warning to booksellers, schools, printers, and anyone involved in dealing with copyrighted materials. The commission stressed that all entities must maintain proper documentation for the sources of their books. Schools found selling pirated books will be treated as offenders, and printers who fail to keep required records will face severe penalties.

The commission’s crackdown aims to deter piracy and ensure that all booksellers operate within legal and ethical guidelines.
