NCC CHAIRMAN, INDUSTRY LEADERS SUPPORT DAYO OKETOLA’S BOOK LAUNCH ON NIGERIAN TECH EVOLUTION

The Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has confirmed his participation in the book launch of The Catalyst: Nigerian Tech Evolution Through a Journalist’s Lens, authored by Dayo Oketola, the immediate past Editor of The PUNCH. The book will be launched on September 17, 2024, marking the end of Oketola’s tenure as Editor and celebrating his two-decade career in journalism and leadership.

Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan, NCC’s Head of Media Relations, praised the book, calling it a significant contribution to the sector. The event has also gained the support of key industry figures, including Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), and Ms. Funke Opeke, CEO of MainOne, who expressed congratulations to Oketola for this milestone.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s telecommunications revolution, will be the Special Guest Speaker at the launch. Oketola’s book highlights the sector’s evolution since the introduction of GSM in 2001 under Obasanjo’s leadership, which has attracted over $70 billion in investments and created more than 500,000 jobs.

Reflecting on his career, Oketola expressed pride in his role as an advocate and influencer in the Nigerian economy and shared his excitement about the upcoming launch and exaugural lecture. He emphasized the growth of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, from just 450,000 telephone lines in 2001 to the vibrant market of today, and outlined how the country can further capitalize on its digital economy.
