The National Park Service (NPS) and the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) have pledged to work together to improve security and management within Nigeria’s forest areas. This collaboration aims to bolster efforts in wildlife conservation and ensure the protection of forest reserves across the country.
During a recent courtesy visit to the NPS headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Ibrahim Goni, the Conservator-General of NPS, assured that his agency would support the NHFSS in safeguarding Nigeria’s forests. He also committed to providing training for NHFSS personnel to better manage activities in forest regions.
Dr. Goni highlighted the importance of the NHFSS’s proposed agency bill, which, if passed by the National Assembly, would aid in securing ungoverned forest spaces.
Dr. Joshua Wole, Commander-General of the NHFSS, expressed his organization’s eagerness to collaborate with NPS for enhanced forest security.
Additionally, Ibrahim Magana, Assistant Chief Park Ranger, was honored with a Distinguished Ranger Award and a ₦100,000 cash prize for his outstanding efforts in animal management, including the rescue of crocodiles. The award was supported by a letter of recognition from the Chief of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa.
