The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted successful airstrikes targeting terrorists and illegal refining sites across various states. The operations resulted in the elimination of numerous terrorists and the destruction of 25 illegal refineries.

Key Developments:

  • Terrorist Strikes: The Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch targeted terrorists relocating from Alawa Forest in Niger to Malum Forest in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. This strategic strike, executed on August 21, aimed at disrupting the terrorists’ operations. Similar strikes were carried out in Zamfara’s Maradun Local Government Area, resulting in the elimination of several terrorists.
  • Illegal Refineries: Operation Delta Safe’s airstrikes focused on dismantling illegal refining sites in Imo and Rivers States. The strikes successfully destroyed 25 illegal refineries, including overhead tanks. Additionally, a pipeline leakage observed in Greenville, Rivers State, was noted for its environmental impact, affecting vegetation and aquatic habitats.

NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, AVM Edward Gabkwet, highlighted the ongoing efforts to track, locate, and neutralize terrorists and curb illegal refining activities, which contribute to environmental degradation and insecurity.
