Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South District, revealed his use of technology to stay security conscious, even while on the floor of the National Assembly. He made this known during a plenary session on July 3, 2024, while contributing to a motion raised by Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South. Ndume’s motion was in response to recent suicide bombings in Borno State, which resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people and injuries to many others.
Ibrahim claimed his phone detected over 277 guns around the Senate chamber, due to an armoury nearby. He emphasized the importance of using technology to track and monitor criminal activity and argued that it wouldn’t cost much for security agencies to install tracking devices in their phones. He suggested that the military should adopt more conventional strategies using technology to combat insurgency, instead of relying on unconventional methods.
Ibrahim called for a dedicated closed-door meeting within the Senate to discuss security matters, underscoring the necessity of prioritizing the safety of all members and citizens.
