Nigerian rapper Falz recently discussed his long-standing commitment to activism, emphasizing that his involvement predates the 2020 ENDSARS movement. In a guest appearance on the Menisms Podcast, Falz clarified that his activism was deeply rooted in his upbringing and influences, rather than being sparked solely by the ENDSARS protests.
Falz attributed his activist stance to his exposure to Fela Kuti’s music and the influence of his father, Femi Falana, a well-known activist. He described how growing up with a father who had been an activist for over 40 years and witnessing his father’s selflessness inspired him from an early age.
He stressed that his activism was an inherent part of him, cultivated over time through his background and experiences. Falz noted that while the 2020 ENDSARS protests were a significant moment, they were part of a larger continuum of his ongoing commitment to social issues.
