Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya recently opened up about the abuse she endured in her failed marriage, revealing that the trauma turned her into an alcoholic. In an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Adesanya shared painful details about her tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband, who she said not only physically abused her for a decade but also tried to control her career.
She recounted how her ex-husband would stop her from acting and even threatened to pluck out her eyes with a knife. According to Adesanya, the abuse was relentless, with her ex-husband beating her whenever he saw her. This ongoing physical and emotional violence led her to develop a drinking problem as a way of coping.
Despite the abuse, Adesanya revealed that she struggled to leave the relationship because of the shame she feared from society. She felt pressure from the judgment people would pass, particularly the belief that she couldn’t keep a man.
