Senator Adams Oshiomhole recently directed disparaging comments at Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the wife of Edo State’s governor, regarding her childlessness. Similarly, JD Vance in the U.S. has also targeted women without children, including Vice President Kamala Harris. These remarks reflect a troubling trend of belittling women based on their reproductive choices.

In response, Mrs. Obaseki delivered a powerful and dignified message during a recent online meeting with over 200 Edo women in the Diaspora. Joined by Madame Ifeyinwa, the wife of PDP gubernatorial candidate Asue Ighodalo, she emphasized the importance of finding purpose in life beyond societal expectations.

Mrs. Obaseki stated, “It is crucial for us to seek deeper perspectives and purpose. Everyone is created to fulfill their unique purpose, and focusing on this helps us rise above hurtful remarks.”

She offered comfort to women who may feel wounded by such comments, particularly those who have faced challenges like miscarriages or the loss of children. “You are not barren. I dare to call you fruitful,” she affirmed, encouraging women to maintain their dignity and embrace their lives as they await the fulfillment of their dreams.

She highlighted that contributions to society extend beyond motherhood, asserting, “Being fruitful is not limited to childbearing; it’s about impacting lives and creating positive change.”

Mrs. Obaseki concluded with a message of gratitude for the love and support she receives, reinforcing the idea that fulfillment can come from various avenues in life, not solely through having children.
