MOTHER OF FOUR APPEALS FOR INCREASE IN FEEDING ALLOWANCE IN ILORIN AREA COURT

< 1 mn read

Jemila Chinwe, a mother of four, has appealed to an Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, seeking an increase in the N20,000 feeding allowance previously granted to her to N80,000. This appeal comes six years after her separation from her ex-husband, which has made it increasingly challenging for her to provide for her children.

In her statement to the court, Chinwe expressed her difficulties in managing the children’s needs with the current allowance, emphasizing that while she does not contest the divorce judgment from September 19, 2018, she feels the initial allowance was insufficient. She mentioned her efforts to have the allowance increased to N40,000, which her ex-husband reluctantly agreed to after three years.

However, presiding Judge Toyin Aluko noted that the case was conclusively decided by the court in 2018 and stated, “We don’t have the power to review the case.” Consequently, the judge ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit and subsequently terminated the case.
