MOST DIFFICULT COUNTRIES TO VISIT AND WHY

< 1 mn read

Traveling to certain countries can be exceptionally challenging due to various factors such as strict regulations, political instability, or limited infrastructure. Here are five of the most difficult countries to visit and the reasons behind their difficulty:

  1. ERITREA
    • RESTRICTIVE POLICIES: Eritrea is notoriously difficult to visit due to its stringent government controls. Visitors face significant restrictions, including needing special permission to travel outside the capital, Asmara. Travel arrangements must be made through authorized companies, and all movements are closely monitored.
  2. NORTH KOREA
    • STRICT TOURISM CONTROLS: North Korea tightly regulates its tourism industry, only allowing guided group tours. Visitors must be accompanied by government-approved guides at all times. Independent travel is forbidden, and any deviation from official tours or interaction with locals can lead to severe consequences.
  3. TURKMENISTAN
    • RESTRICTED ACCESS: Turkmenistan’s tourism is heavily restricted, requiring most visitors to obtain an official government invitation. Even with an invitation, tourists must be accompanied by a guide, significantly limiting their ability to explore the country on their own.
  4. YEMEN
    • DANGEROUS CONDITIONS: Yemen is plagued by ongoing civil war and political instability, making it one of the most perilous destinations for tourists. Travel advisories frequently warn against visiting due to risks such as terrorism, kidnapping, and armed conflict, rendering safe travel nearly impossible.
  5. BHUTAN
    • HIGH COST OF ENTRY: Bhutan imposes a high daily tourist fee (around $250 per day) which covers accommodation, food, and a guide. This fee is part of the country’s strategy to limit tourism’s impact on its culture and environment, making it one of the most exclusive and expensive destinations to visit.
