Senator Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, has announced plans to reconstruct the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway with concrete pavement to mitigate water damage that affects asphalt surfaces. This decision came during his inspection of emergency repairs on a seven-kilometer stretch of the road in Lagos State on Tuesday.

Umahi highlighted that the Ogun State section of the expressway has already been managed by the state government. He emphasized that concrete pavement is a more durable solution against water-related issues, ensuring better longevity and stability for the roadway.

During his visit, the minister assured that funds would be allocated soon for completing repairs on the remaining 11-kilometer stretch of the road. He instructed the contractor in charge of the emergency repairs to focus on deploying stone basements and reopening the road to traffic.

Umahi expressed confidence that asphalt could be laid by mid-November, while also stating that thorough due diligence is underway for the expressway’s comprehensive reconstruction. He reiterated his preference for concrete over asphalt, noting, “If the investor will not use concrete, he should go out of the road.”
