On Sunday, the US military, through the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), reported that it detected and “escorted out” a civilian aircraft that violated a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. The violation occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
NORAD responded by deploying F-16 fighter aircraft to intercept and escort the civilian aircraft out of the restricted airspace. The military aircraft also dispensed flares, which may have been visible to civilians in the area.
General Gregory Guillot, NORAD Commander, emphasized that the agency collaborates closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure airspace safety, particularly around areas with Temporary Flight Restrictions. Since Trump’s inauguration on January 20, NORAD has responded to over 20 instances of aircraft entering the TFR area near Mar-a-Lago.
