Former Chelsea midfielder JOHN OBI MIKEL has shed light on the failed transfer of VICTOR OSIMHEN from NAPOLI to CHELSEA during the summer window. MIKEL addressed rumors suggesting that financial issues were the primary cause of the deal falling through.
In a recent podcast appearance, MIKEL, who, along with DIDIER DROGBA, played a crucial role in Chelsea’s efforts to sign the NAPOLI striker on transfer deadline day, provided insider details on the negotiations.
“That’s definitely not true,” MIKEL stated emphatically, refuting claims about excessive financial demands. “I know what VICTOR wanted, I know what the club offered him, and I know where we got to.”
MIKEL explained that both parties had reached a compromise on several issues, but a few final details couldn’t be resolved in time. “We finally got to a compromise, but there were a few issues we couldn’t finalize before the deadline,” he revealed.
He praised CHELSEA’S ambition and commitment to securing the deal, saying, “I commend CHELSEA for their efforts because I saw their ambition for where they want to take the club.”
MIKEL also suggested that the transfer could still be revisited in the future. “If we pick this up again in January or the summer, we know where we left off and just need to finalize a few details to get it done,” he stated.
Despite the transfer not materializing, MIKEL assured that both CHELSEA and OSIMHEN are satisfied with the current situation. “The club is in a good place, and VICTOR is happy with the club,” MIKEL added.
His comments provide a clearer understanding of the complex negotiations and suggest that OSIMHEN’S potential move to STAMFORD BRIDGE may not be entirely off the table for future transfer windows.
