Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has come to the defense of Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho following allegations of racism. On his podcast, Mikel Obi dismissed the accusations as “a joke” and “baseless,” referring to them as politically motivated.

The controversy started after Mourinho allegedly referred to the Galatasaray bench as “jumping around like monkeys” during a 0-0 draw between the two teams. Galatasaray responded by threatening legal action, accusing Mourinho of making racist remarks.

Mikel Obi, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea, vehemently rejected the allegations. He emphasized that Mourinho has always treated everyone equally, calling him a “beautiful, beautiful human being” who loves and respects everyone. He expressed disbelief at the accusations, especially given Mourinho’s close relationships with African players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, whom he always treated like his own children.

Mikel Obi strongly defended Mourinho’s character, saying that the allegations were unfounded and politically charged, and he questioned the motivations behind them.
