Nigerian Afrobeats singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, known as Mayorkun, has addressed allegations that he used female social media influencer Nicki Dabarbie for a ritual. On April 19, 2024, Dabarbie accused Mayorkun and his colleague, Skibii, of plotting to use her in a money ritual through a series of social media posts.
Mayorkun, who had remained silent until now, took to his X account to express frustration over the spread of false news about him and the reactions from the public. He emphasized that he had never met Nicki Dabarbie and was unaware of her existence until the accusations emerged.
He stated that the matter is currently in court as he will not allow the defamatory claim to go unchallenged due to its damaging impact on his reputation and career. Mayorkun reiterated that he had never met Dabarbie and would pursue legal action without demanding an apology from her.
He wrote, “Initially, I intended to keep this a court matter, but seeing the comments on blogs sharing these absurd allegations reminded me of how gullible people can be online, quickly spreading negative news without verification.
“For the record, I never met that person on the alleged day, have never seen her, and did not know of her existence until these allegations surfaced. Yet, she claimed I put ‘something’ in her drink.
“Many people believed this story, and you think I’ll let this libellous claim stand? No way!
“I want to reiterate, I have never seen this person before, even as I write this. I still haven’t laid eyes on her. What more can I say? How else can I prove this?
“I won’t ask for an apology where none will be given. I just needed to publicly address this and clear my name, because if it were a case of ‘cancellation’ as many are quick to do, I’d be back looking for a job in a bank.”
