Mathew Kolawole, the immediate past Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s government, stating that it requires more time to establish itself due to the challenging economic conditions inherited from the previous administration.
In an interview with journalists on September 29, 2024, Kolawole urged Nigerians to exercise patience, emphasizing that the president is diligently working to address the nation’s issues. He acknowledged the significant challenges Nigeria faces and noted that while Tinubu’s reforms may initially cause hardship, they are necessary for long-term solutions.
Kolawole remarked, “The APC government has come to stay to the best of my knowledge. I also strongly believe that we are in a trying moment as far as the nation’s economy and Nigerians are concerned. In actual sense, President Tinubu needs more time to settle down fully because of the rot in the system from where we as a nation are coming from. It will take a while for us as a nation to come out of our challenges. The ongoing reforms may be biting hard, but it is a process to take us to our dreamland.”
He elaborated that the difficulties currently experienced by Nigerians are part of Tinubu’s economic reforms, asserting that the president has clear objectives for his administration. Kolawole believes that the roadmap laid out by Tinubu will ultimately lead to progress, including increased food production and overall development that will benefit citizens.
In conclusion, Kolawole’s statements highlight a call for understanding and patience among Nigerians as the Tinubu administration navigates through the economic challenges left behind by previous governments.
