As President Bola Tinubu announces his plans to reshuffle his cabinet for improved service delivery and success, the Mandate Protection Vanguard (MPV) has emphasized the urgent need for him to consider experienced and highly skilled human resource personnel as ministers in the upcoming cabinet.
In a statement signed by its Co-ordinator, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, the group asserted that “there is no doubt that several eggheads abound across the six geopolitical zones that can add value and acceptability to the government.”
While acknowledging the appointments of politicians and close allies as ministers, the group pointed out that many qualified Nigerians have excelled in both private and public sectors. Some have experience at the state level, while others have operated at the federal level.
The MPV highlighted the current economic challenges facing the country and stressed the need for credible and economically savvy ministers. They believe these ministers can deliver on their areas of expertise, making the administration’s programs and projects more popular and effective, ultimately helping to rescue the nation from its present difficulties.
The group suggested several candidates for consideration:
- Mallam Nasir el-Rufai: A cerebral politician from Northern Nigeria, trained as a quantity surveyor, who holds a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University. He has served as Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, and the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State.
- Senator Shehu Sani: Noted for his pro-democracy activism, Senator Sani is recognized as one of the few Northern personalities who joined forces with activists to fight for the restoration of democracy in Nigeria.
- Prof. Bart Nnaji: The former Minister of Power, Prof. Nnaji is a seasoned administrator with expertise in the power generation sector. He is a professor of Electrical Engineering and has served as the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
- Senator Adeleke Mamora: A medical doctor, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and senator, Dr. Mamora also served as a minister in the Buhari administration. The group described him as a cool-headed professional with vast experience.
- Ojo Samuel Olukunle: A seasoned technocrat and public servant with expertise in public policy formulation and implementation. He is a Harvard-certified public administrator with significant experience in public finance and budgeting, having served as a permanent secretary and Chief of Staff in the Lagos State Governor’s Office.
The MPV expressed confidence that these candidates would bring valuable expertise to the cabinet, contributing to the administration’s efforts to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
