The Police Command in Lagos State reported that a man died after allegedly jumping into a canal to evade arrest in the Ipaja area. According to the command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred on Wednesday around 10:00 a.m. in the Mosan Okunola area.

In response to claims that the police chased the man into the canal, Hundeyin clarified that the reports were false. After visiting the scene, police found eyewitnesses who described the events. The man was a passenger on a motorcycle traveling against traffic. Upon seeing the police, the motorcycle rider made a sudden U-turn, prompting the passenger to jump off, cross the road, and run toward a nearby tipper garage.

Witnesses at the garage warned him about the canal ahead as he emptied his pockets but he did not heed their warnings and jumped into the canal. The police officers, surprised by his actions, stopped their vehicle and proceeded toward the canal.
