Liverpool started their Champions League campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over AC Milan on Tuesday. Despite falling behind early to a Christian Pulisic goal, Liverpool responded strongly with goals from Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Dominik Szoboszlai to secure the win.
The match, held at the San Siro during Milan Fashion Week, showcased Liverpool’s dominance as they created numerous chances. Mohamed Salah was notably denied by the woodwork twice in the first half.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot, celebrating his 46th birthday, expressed his delight, saying, “It was a great day to celebrate your birthday at a stadium like this, and then to win.”
The win was a much-needed boost for Liverpool following a surprise defeat to Nottingham Forest. For Milan, the result added to their struggles under new coach Paulo Fonseca, with fewer than 60,000 fans attending the high-profile fixture. Milan’s challenge was further compounded by the injury to France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Pulisic acknowledged the tough start and called for improvements as Milan prepares to face Inter Milan in the weekend’s Milan derby.
