The Libyan Football Association has released an official statement addressing the mistreatment of Nigeria’s Super Eagles and their delegates upon their arrival in Libya.

The Nigerian national football team faced significant difficulties after their flight was unexpectedly diverted, leading them to land at an airport not initially planned. This diversion resulted in the team, along with representatives from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), being stranded for over 15 hours without adequate provisions or sustenance.

In response to the incident, the Libyan FA expressed their deep concern over the situation through their official account on X. They acknowledged the reports regarding the diversion of the Nigerian national team’s flight ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Libya.

The Libyan FA stated, “While we regret any inconvenience caused, it is essential to note that such incidents can occur due to routine air traffic control protocols, security checks, or logistical challenges that affect international air travel.” They emphasized that the issues faced by the Super Eagles were not intentional but rather a result of logistical challenges.

In light of the ordeal, the NFF has announced plans to withdraw the Super Eagles from the upcoming clash in Libya, further complicating the situation for both teams ahead of the qualifier.
