Dr. Gever Verlumun, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has emphasized the need for Nigerian scholars to distinguish between fake and legitimate websites.
Speaking at a pre-conference workshop organized by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at UNN, Dr. Verlumun highlighted the growing issue of fake journals. He explained that the drive for authors to publish in peer-reviewed indexed journals has led to the creation of counterfeit journals that mimic legitimate ones. These fake journals often charge authors fees without adhering to proper publishing standards.
Dr. Verlumun pointed out that articles published in these fraudulent journals are not indexed and do not receive the academic recognition that legitimate publications provide.
