The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that from January 2024 to June 2024, LASTMA impounded a total of 9,370 vehicles for alleged traffic violations. This included 3,034 private vehicles, comprising 1,849 cars, 549 buses, and 636 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), as well as 6,336 commercial vehicles, which consisted of 5,101 buses and 1,235 articulated vehicles.
During this period, LASTMA recorded 517 incidents, including 77 overturned vehicles and 440 minor accidents, with 256 casualties reported. Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of obeying traffic rules and regulations and respecting traffic managers. He highlighted efforts in training and retraining LASTMA staff, collaboration with law enforcement agencies like the Nigerian Police and Nigerian Army, and ongoing initiatives to improve service delivery and public confidence in LASTMA.
