February 14, 2025, will be a significant day not only for lovers worldwide but also for traders and shoppers, as it marks the formal unveiling of the Trade Fair Shopping Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. The announcement was made by Chief Eric Ifeanyichukwu Ilechukwu, Chairman of the Stakeholders Forum at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, during a press briefing.

The ultramodern Trade Fair Shopping Centre is described as a world-class facility located within the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, along the Lagos-Badagry Express Way. Chief Ilechukwu stated that the project is valued at over N28.26 trillion, encompassing investments in infrastructure, trade, and human capital.

“The centre has been under construction for the past twenty-five years due to its size and the harsh economic conditions. We decided to build and complete the project in phases, which allowed our members to relocate and open their shops in batches,” he explained.

The date of the unveiling holds historical significance, as it also marks the 25th anniversary celebration of the Trade Fair Shopping Centre. Many traders formerly operated in areas such as Idumota, Mandilas, Balogun, and Ebute Meta before relocating to the new centre. Notably, the Auto Spare Parts and Machineries Dealers Association (ASPAMDA) was the first group to complete their move from Idumota to their dedicated plaza at the Trade Fair on February 14, 2000.

In a separate interview, Juventus Okpala, the Stakeholders’ General Secretary, confirmed that all sections of the centre are now completed and fully operational. The Trade Fair Shopping Centre includes various specialized areas such as:

  • Balogun Business Association’s BBA/ICC
  • ASPAMDA’s Auto Parts Plaza
  • Association of Nigeria Tyre Marketers/Africa Tyre Village
  • Association of Progressive Traders/Jewelry Complex
  • Tools and Hardware Centre
  • Mandilas United/Shoes, Wears, and Bags Centre
  • United Allied Spare Parts/Motorcycle, Three-Wheeler, and Generator Parts Complex
  • Ebute Ero/Home and Kitchen Utensils Complex

Okpala emphasized that the centre is equipped with warehouses, office buildings, hotels, hospitals, and ample parking, all designed to create a beautiful and functional environment. The centre also boasts a well-organized sanitation system and a robust safety and security structure. He noted that prices are competitive, with eighty percent of the traders being real importers, manufacturers, and trade mark owners, ensuring affordable products for consumers.

The unveiling event promises to be a grand celebration, bringing together traders, shoppers, and dignitaries to witness the launch of this monumental project in Lagos.
