LAGOS TO HOST INAGURAL AFROPOLIS LAGOS FESTIVAL, ATTRACTING 200 INTERNATIONAL TOURISTS

Lagos is preparing to welcome 200 international tourists from 11 countries for the maiden edition of the Afropolis Lagos Festival, scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 3. Festival initiator Mr. Qudus Onikeku announced the details during a press conference in Lagos.

The festival, themed “Within New Myth,” is a collaboration between QDance Centre and the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture. Onikeku, who founded the QDance Centre, described the festival as focusing on the African diaspora, celebrating the rich cultural heritage, creativity, and innovation of Lagos State.

“We are expecting 200 international tourists from 11 countries to participate in this festival. Over 20,000 local and international tourists are anticipated,” Onikeku stated. Participating countries include South Africa, Togo, Benin Republic, France, the U.S., Ghana, Netherlands, Morocco, Ethiopia, Colombia, and Brazil.

The festival will feature a diverse lineup of activities, including visual art exhibitions, dance performances, music concerts, dance competitions, pop-up arts spaces, and a dedicated children’s corner called the Play Zone. Additionally, a Tech Zone managed by CC Hub will be part of the festival.

To facilitate the event, the JK Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History road will be closed from October 26 to November 3, transforming it into a vibrant festival arena. Onikeku emphasized the collaborative nature of the festival, highlighting the participation of comedians, poets, and various artists from Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, Asaba, and beyond.

The Afropolis Lagos Festival promises to be a significant cultural event, showcasing the dynamism of Lagos and its creative ecosystem.
