The Lagos State Government has announced plans to close and divert traffic on Eko Bridge to facilitate emergency repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works. The closure will begin on Monday, September 16, and is expected to last for 8 weeks, with the bridge scheduled to reopen in the second week of November.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this announcement in a statement on Friday. He explained that the repairs will be conducted in four phases, during which the bridge will be intermittently fully or partially closed, depending on the work schedule.
Alternative Routes and Travel Advisory
To manage the traffic disruptions, Osiyemi advised motorists to use the following alternative routes during the repair period:
- Motorists heading to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue can use the service lane at Alaka to connect Costain and access Eko Bridge to continue their journeys.
- Another option for motorists heading to the Island is to access Costain and connect Eko Bridge to link Apongbon for their destinations.
- Those coming from Apongbon inwards Eko Bridge can link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.
- Motorists can also use Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or opt for Apapa Road from Costain to link Oyingbo, accessing Adekunle to connect Third Mainland Bridge.
- Motorists heading to Surulere are advised to use Costain to link Breweries inwards Abebe Village, connecting Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to reach their destinations.
Osiyemi assured the public that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers will be deployed to the rehabilitation areas and alternative routes to minimize travel delays and inconvenience
