CSP Adetayo Akerele, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, has launched a robust operation aimed at enforcing the ban on motorcycle operations in certain routes across the state. This initiative follows a statement from the agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, on Wednesday.

Akerele announced that the operation has already led to the impounding of 115 motorcycles in key areas such as LASU First Gate, Ipaja Gate, Governor’s Road, Igando axis, and Dopemu, where operators were found blatantly violating the state’s traffic regulations.

“The latest enforcement operations were carried out in key areas where Okada operators were found blatantly flouting the state’s traffic regulations,” Akerele stated. He emphasized that the agency, in collaboration with other security outfits, remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy toward violations on these restricted routes.

The ban on motorcycle operations in certain areas was instituted to ensure the safety and well-being of all Lagosians. Akerele warned that those who continue to operate in restricted areas and endanger the lives of road users will face the full consequences of the law.

Despite repeated warnings and sensitization efforts, some operators have persisted in defying the ban, putting public safety at risk. The impounded motorcycles will be confiscated, and legal action will be pursued against the violators.

The chairman reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, as outlined in the THEMES PLUS Agenda. He urged commercial motorcycle operators to strictly adhere to the laws governing their operations.
