The Lagos State Task Force has impounded at least 82 commercial motorcycles, commonly known as Okada, throughout the metropolis. The motorcycles were seized due to illegal operations in restricted areas, violating the state’s traffic laws.
Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, stated that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to enforce traffic regulations. The motorcycles were confiscated during recent operations in the Berger, Mile 2 Oke, and Orile areas.
CSP Akerele reiterated the agency’s firm stance against illegal operations, emphasizing that both riders and passengers who violate the ban will face prosecution. He warned, “Passengers on Okada are as guilty as the riders. If caught, they will face the full weight of the law alongside the riders.”
He added that the Lagos State Taskforce is dedicated to enforcing the law and ensuring that Lagos roads remain safe and accessible for all. Residents are urged to comply with regulations, which are designed to protect the lives and property of everyone in the state.
All 82 impounded motorcycles will be forfeited to the state government through the court.
