LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT TO INCREASE BOARDING FEES IN MODEL COLLEGES

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced an increase in boarding fees for its model colleges to enhance student welfare.

Mr. Ganiu Lawal, Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, confirmed the decision in a statement on Monday.

Lawal explained that the current boarding fee of N35,000, which has been in place since 2021, is no longer adequate for 2024. He noted that boarding students represent over one percent of the total student population in public schools in the state.

Starting from the 2024/2025 academic session, the boarding fee will rise to N100,000 per term, effective from September 15, 2024.

Lawal acknowledged some parents’ concerns about the increase but emphasized that student welfare is a priority. The revised fees will cover expenses related to feeding, janitorial services, and other hostel-related costs. He added that the choice to enroll a child in a boarding school is individual, and parents are expected to cover the boarding fees.
